Please read this entire page prior to requesting an appointment. Our shared responsbilities are defined.

Of course we’d love to hear that you are fully vaccinated but we will not inquire about or require information regarding your vaccination status. Mike voluntarily shares with you that he is fully vaccinated (mRNA) against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

You will notice some changes in your service due to the declared pandemic.

  • Although not a change to policy I will note that plenty of time is scheduled between appointments to allow me to clean and disinfect my station and to ensure your one-on-one session is not disturbed. Since I operate from home it is a requirement that you do not enter the premises until you have been invited. You are asked to call or send us a SMS message when you arrive for your appointment. Please arrive no more than five minutes early.
  • Parents and children from the same household numbering no more than four (4) may accompany a client receiving service. A separate waiting area is provided.
  • Unfortunately, there will be less casual conversation during your service. Always face forward toward the mirror.

Before Your Appointment

Ontario is making great strides in getting everyone vaccinated. The following remarks can now be more loosely applied and considered more as a guide than stringent policy and should be applied to any suspected communicable infection. Mike is fully vaccinated (mRNA) against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Before you confirm your appointment you should take the Ontario COVID-19 self-assessment. If indicated by the self-assessment you may proceed to confirm your appointment. Please keep your recent self-assessment in mind or use the tool again prior to your appointment if you suspect your condition may have changed. I would much rather waive the cancellation fee than put my family at risk. Do not keep your appointment if you do not feel well.

You can trust that I will keep my studio clean, disinfected and ready to accomodate you. You are not only a client but also a guest in my home. I need to trust that you will keep me and my family safe by rescheduling your appointment if you (or anyone accompanying you);

  • have recently visited an area in the past 14 days where COVID-19 infection rates are high
  • have recently visited someone in the past 14 days who has tested positive for COVID-19
  • have recently visited someone in the past 14 days who has mentioned or you inferred they were not feeling well or had a fever
  • are living with someone who has been sick in the past 14 days
  • have experienced any symptoms related to COVID-19 infection in the past 14 days (self-assessment)

Typical symptoms of COVID-19 include new; fever, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, body aches, headache, extreme fatigue, loss of taste or smell, and sore throat. Any single symptom or combination of symptoms may or may not indicate infection. Take the self-assessment and seek advice if indicated. Reschedule your appointment if there is any concern.

Arriving For Your Appointment

  • Arrive alone no more than five minutes early for your appointment. Up to four (4) family members from the same household may accompany a client receiving service.
  • Call or send us a SMS when you have arrived. We will invite you into the studio after the previous client has left and all tools, seating and contact points are cleaned and disinfected. No mobile? No worries! I will seek you when my space is ready to receive you.
  • Containers are not permitted. No food, drink, backpacks, purses or other such items will be permitted. Arrive only with your method of payment. A personal device is permitted.
  • Arrive for your appointment wearing clean clothes.
  • Arrive for your appointment with clean, product-free hair. Add-on shampoo service is available and will be applied where indicated.
  • Please remove any objects from your pockets or attached to your belt that might cause damage to upholstery. Items including your personal device can be placed on the counter in front of you. This space is cleaned and disinfected after each client visit.

We won’t have a second thought about waiving the cancellation fee if you advise us you are feeling unwell prior to your appointment or present with a temperature above 38C (100.4F) .

Your arrival for your appointment will be interpreted as implicit consent for us to take your temperature (no-touch thermometer).

During Your Service

  • As a personal care provider I am required to wear a face covering during your service. A disposable mask can be provided for you at recovery cost or you can bring one from home. A face covering is recommended when social distancing is not possible such as when receiving hairstyling services. Health Canada informs us that a face covering cannot protect you from COVID-19 but may be useful in reducing the risk of you spreading COVID-19 to someone else.
  • You are welcome to use hand sanitizer provided at the barbering station and the sink. Note that Health Canada boldly states that sanitizer is useless against COVID-19. You are welcome to wash with soap and warm water and dry off with a disposable towel.

After Your Appointment

  • We encourage touchless payment. Add a credit card to your online booking profile and we can claim your service fee directly.
  • We accept “tap” card payments, NFC device payments, PayPal, several cryptocurrencies, and Interac e-Transfer. Hover your payment card or mobile over our device for a zero contact transaction.
  • Pre-book your next service during checkout or use your personal device to sign in to your online booking profile to schedule your next service.

My family and I thank you for choosing me as your barber. We are extremely grateful for any measures you take to keep yourself safe during this time so as to contribute to our mutual health and safety.

Our Stance on COVID-19 and Common Practices

Ignoring the media hype and the countless controversial studies we have chosen to do what is sensible and scientifically proven to be effective which just happens to be what Health Canada requires. As a licensed hairstylist I can confidently state that not much has changed in respects of the cleaning and disinfecting of tools and work spaces since the declaration of this pandemic. Personal service professionals’ cleaning and disinfecting protocols have always been a regional requirement. The only notable change in operations for a small studio due to the declared pandemic is the order for barbers to wear a face covering and that certain services are restricted to certain stages of re-opening.

My profession takes the risk of transmission of any disease very seriously and it is not uncommon for us to identify a communicable or infectious disease resulting in refusing service and directing the guest to seek a physician.

I designed and built my studio myself during the pandemic with the pandemic in mind. I was focused to ensure the safety of my family and my guests. Contact points are extremely minimized and air movement is designed to minimize risk from airborne particles. Recirculated air is filtered through two 22 kg activated carbon filters (an equivalent of over 20 million square kilometers of extended surface filter) which are pre-filtered using extended surface and HEPA-type filters. Doors and windows are periodically opened to provide fresh air exchange. Our disinfectants have been validated with Health Canada’s list of disinfectants approved for use against COVID-19. As a private studio we do not see tens, hundreds, or thousands of guests each day as do salons, barbershops and shopping centers. On average I provide service to no more than six persons each day. It couldn’t be much easier to effectively clean and disinfect contact points in such a small space (less than 400 sq ft) with so few visitors. I feel confident that my studio is one of the safest places to receive hairstyling services.

To be most specific in answering your concerns about disinfection, the following are cleaned and disinfected before and after each service:

  • barbering chair
  • shampoo station (if used)
  • shampoo and conditioner bottles (if used)
  • counter in front of barbering chair
  • clippers, scissors, brushes, combs, blow dryer, sprayer bottle
  • barber’s tool counter
  • payment device and checkout counter
  • stairway handrail
  • interior and exterior door handles
  • additional seating (if used)

Cleaning is performed using antibacterial soaps, antibacterial and virucidal cleansers, and concentrated brush and comb cleaners. Disinfection is performed using bactericidal, virucidal, and tuberculocidal solutions where appropriate. Concentrated antibacterial and virucidal sprays are used on porous surfaces such as cushions on chairs in the waiting area.

Are we doing everything we must to protect you? YES! Are we doing everything we can to protect you? YES! Will our general practices change when the current pandemic is declared over? NO, with the exception of face coverings. We want you to see our full facial expression when we thank you for your business.
